Setting Achievable Business Resolutions

As we bring in a new year, it’s the perfect time for businesses to reflect on the past year, and set goals to move forward with. Use the tips below to help guide your businesses towards a positive year.

  • Reflect on the previous year

Before looking towards future goals, it is important to reflect on the successes and challenges of the past year. What has worked well? What needs improvement? Understanding this will help in the planning for the year ahead.

  • Define clear objectives

Goals should be SMART – specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound. This ensures there are clear objectives to meet. For example, rather than saying ‘increase sales’, make it ‘increase sales by 15% by the end of Q2’. This allows you to track your progress properly.

  • Prioritise the most important goals

What will have the most significant impact on your business? Focus on key objectives to make the most progress, rather than creating a number of different goals. These are something that may change throughout the year, so it is important to revisit goals to ensure the right things are being targeted.

  • Develop a plan of action

You’ve decided on your goals – now it’s time to break them into actionable steps. This can be personalised to your business, but ultimately it is important to outline the tasks, resources and timelines required to achieve each goal. From there, it is clear to see what needs to be done and when.

  • Regularly monitor and adjust goals

As briefly mentioned above, it is important to monitor your goals and adjust them if needed. Businesses change throughout each year, so flexibility in goal planning is necessary. Regular check-ins throughout the year should celebrate achievements, address any challenges, and help to refine strategies.

Will you be setting business resolutions this year? It’s important to remember that small and consistent steps are the ones that lead to significant changes and accomplishments.

Start thinking about your SMART goals now.
