Printing Best Practice
Print projects include flyers and brochures, business cards, books, magazines, reports, posters and more. Creating design for print requires different processes in comparison to design for the web.
Computer graphics use RGB colour, whereas printers work with CMYK, so if designing for print, make sure to set your software to the latter.
Resolution is also important when printing. Set your DPI to a maximum of 300, to avoid blurry or pixilated imagery when printing.
Bleed is something you need to take into account, as the way a printer cuts the paper down can differ. Leaving space around the edges (bleed) removes any room for error in losing parts of the design when printing. If you are unsure about the specifications for this, your print supplier should be able to provide the details.
Think about:
- What is the print medium?
- How big will the final output be?
- Will it be printed on single pages or double?
