There are both challenges and opportunities for designers when it comes to copyright.

Copyright doesn’t require any action – once you create something, you own the copyright of that design. It means you have powerful leverage when negotiating with clients or anyone who wants to reproduce your work.

It also means that you can’t re-use other images without having permission or waiting for the image to be old enough to be out of copyright. However, there are websites that host a number of images available for use under a Creative Commons License, such as Shutterstock.
