What is HyNet North West?

HyNet North West is a pioneering hydrogen energy and carbon capture, usage, and storage (CCUS) project aimed at reducing carbon emissions from industry, homes, and transport. It will support economic growth in the North West of England by saving over one million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, equivalent to removing more than 600,000 cars from the road.

How Will HyNet North West Work?

  1. Hydrogen Production: The initial phase involves producing hydrogen from natural gas and developing a new hydrogen pipeline. This hydrogen will supply energy-intensive industrial users, significantly reducing their CO2 emissions.
  2. Carbon Capture, Usage, and Storage (CCUS): HyNet North West will create the UK’s first CCUS infrastructure in the Liverpool Bay oil and gas fields – crucial for achieving long-term emissions savings.
  3. Domestic and Small Business Use: Local domestic users and small businesses will receive a blend of hydrogen and natural gas, requiring no changes to their current gas appliances or usage habits.
  4. Transport Infrastructure: The new hydrogen pipeline will also enable the establishment of hydrogen transport fuelling hubs across the region.

Benefits for the North West

This project provides significant environmental benefits and economic opportunities, positioning the North West as a leader in carbon emissions reduction.

How Can Your Business Get Involved?
